Our slow cooker is an appliance superhero, as it swoops in whenever hot weather limits our time in the kitchen, or we only have a short window of prep time, or when we are suddenly stricken with a severe bout of laziness. Regardless of the circ*mstances, when we want the cooking process to be easy, we also wish the same for the prep. Keep it simple with these 20 slow-cooker recipes with six ingredients or fewer.

We have some meals and main dishes in this list, but let’s start with a side: apple-brown sugar-glazed carrots. And yes, they’re just as delicious as they sound. Thankfully, they’re much easier than they sound, and this recipe from Taste of Home only requires six ingredients.

Apple butter

We promise this isn’t just a list of 20 apple-centric recipes—but come on, who could resist making a batch of this delicious apple butter from The Magical Slow Cooker? You’ll need to peel, core, and slice the apples (which is a breeze with the right appliance), but after that, your slow cooker and blender will do the rest of the work making this topping for toast, ice cream, or anything else to which you’d like to add tastiness.

Baby back ribs

These baby back ribs are so easy a baby could make them. (But please don’t let your baby near your slow cooker.) You’ll need ribs, bbq sauce, garlic, onion, salt, and pepper, and your slow cooker will need about four hours on high or eight hours on low. We’d recommend following the advice from All Recipes and caramelizing your ribs in the oven for 10-15 minutes, too. It’s worth the extra appliance.
