Department Summary
System IT is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of System IT is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.
System IT provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. As a department, we strive to provide the most professional personnel possible to serve our campus constituents.

Position Overview
The Enterprise Architect serves as a technical, system integration, and IT architecture subject matter expert and works with the operations team, Individual Practice Architects, Systems Analysts, and within the IT infrastructure technical team to design and build IT systems and platforms. Expected to lead complex technical projects and ensures long-term requirements of systems management and planning. Owns the ultimate responsibility for the technical design functionality of IT systems and platforms including servers, client applications that are managed by the Systems Engineering Team, the Cloud Services Team, and the Identity and Access Management Team.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and six years of related enterprise architecture experience including Microsoft Azure, VMWare, and Active Directory deployment, design and administration; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, or training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of implementation of end-to-end integrated systems
* Knowledge of architectural initiatives that drive revenue and improve efficiency inline with business strategy
* Knowledge of the organization's technologies and architectures
* Skill in oral and written communication, appropriate to the needs of the audience
* Ability to maintain current and planned state architectural blueprints
* Ability to develop architectural road map for the enterprise
* Ability to communicate architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies
* Ability to gain organizational commitment for enterprise level architecture and infrastructure initiatives
* Ability to design and implement enterprise architectural direction
* Ability to deliver architectural metrics and reports for the executive team, business and IT management
Preferred Qualifications
*3+ years of experience in Higher Education
*Bachelor’s Degree or Higher
*SNIA SNCP Certified Storage Engineer
*VMware Data Center Virtualization Certification
*Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
*Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert
*Experience implementing MFA and SSO technologies
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Leads the planning, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure solutions and platforms that perform to defined functional and operational expectations.
- Delivers high-quality IT architectural systems and infrastructure designs with specific focus on building the designed systems accounting for existing technical debt, any development bottlenecks, and architecture initiatives to drive service delivery, optimize cost, and support established business goals.
- Establishes and maintains technical security architecture, availability, overall performance, and maintenance activities.
- Communicates and accurately documents all architectural decisions, plans, goals, and functional requirements.
- Serves as the Enterprise Architect and technical lead for service delivery of the scope of the built system by designing, reviewing, and overseeing the implementation of end-to-end integrated systems, enterprise data, and metadata structures, as well as internal systems such as product deployment and licensing.
- Contributes to the definition of the overall IT strategy and Enterprise roadmaps by collaborating with other technical leads, project managers, business relationship managers, and business analysts on a project team and across the organization.
- Identifies and proposes new IT standards (products, solutions, and services).
- Ensures high quality by establishing a baseline and monitoring technical metrics (i.e., code coverage, performance, scalability) that report the overall health of newly built IT systems.
- Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts. Stays up to date on future innovations, and technical trends and applies this to direct future changes.
- Has knowledge of the solutions available as well as best practices for business processes.
- Runs complex projects ensuring they are completed on time and within budget with only general direction from management.
