I've never really understood why people think so hardline about this. As if it's inconceivable that a player could earn less money on their next contract especially if they've fallen out of favour.Fact is if their stocks had risen while they were away then Celtic wouldn't be in the conversation.
Using the EPL as a wage gauge is folly anyway, nobody is giving Eddy 70k a week outside his current deal unless he goes to Saudi. If he wants to play and nobody in the EPL is interested then he'll need to accept a pay cut. God forbid you go from earning 70k a week for 5 year to a mere 40 for the next 5.
Loads of teams will still be interested in Edouard that will pay him more than we will.
How many players have we signed from the Premier League is recent years? There’s a reason why? Money.
70k to 35k or whatever we will pay is a huge drop.
I'm sure our wage structure has been increased recently?
I absolutely get that but from what I took it wasn't just folk putting him on a wish list, there was some itk whispers about the possibility. Otherwise I would also dismiss as a non starter but will goes a long way!

Possibly but we’re still paying less on wages than Rangers, not a very high bar.
I’m all for spending more on players and salaries, we could do that even without spending more money, just buying more quality than quantity.
I think that EPL players are difficult because of the stupid amounts of money that they pay down there. Players are leaving major European clubs to go to teams like Wolves because they are paying more.

I'd imagine that's just another way of saying they have a 40% sell on fee for whatever Shakhtar receive?

I don’t think guys likes Tierney and Edouard would present any value for money after they’ve been in the EPL.Loved both of them but just can’t see how it works out unless both take major pay cuts. None of them are at the stage in their career where that seems a viable option.
The value is in improving the starting XI
The sooner we stop viewing players as potential sell on profit the better.
I agree. We have the cash to carry a couple of high earners who don't have resale profit value. My only issue would be one of those as Tierney due to his injury issues.

No, he’s moved on twice from then. To some other Georgian mob the Red Star. Doesn’t make sense. Maybe transfermarket have effed up, but they explicitly say 40% rights held by Tiblisi. Dual ownership isn’t allowed in Europe is it?

Georgia and Ukraine you're speaking about here - if there's a way they'll have found it.

Might be some weird thing going on with transfers to Ukrainian teams? They had a mass exodus of foreign players a couple of summers ago, maybe this is a workaround that if the foreign players leave they can return to a former club for a fee. Genuinely no idea though

Doak is the only one really that's amounted to much though all the others which promoted similar noises have been disappointing. , I think in general our youth set up is chronic.Aye, I get that. Just because Hepburn hasn't made inroads at Munich or Hjelde has been patched by Leeds doesn't mean they couldn't have been somewhere in about our team though.
Does anyone know if Hepburn/Hjelde have done much since leaving? Morrison seems to have had a good season at Wigan. I wouldn’t be against a return if they have the talent.
When Forrest retires, it will get even more difficult to fulfil our home grown quota.

Part of the pathway is obviously playing- and at a good few levels above the B team for at least some of them.
We should be far more active in getting players out to spfl and English championship and at worst EFL league 1 clubs.
Split the year as well. Loan till January and then another from January if it will help them.
Part of our investment in them should be letting them go and still picking up most of the wages and not being silly with loan fees.
If guys like Kelly and Vata are that sought after you would think that surely teams would be lining up to get that talent for a few months at little outlay.

This is where those who want to sign Sessengon and convert him to a winger.
His biggest asset is his pace but when he's so far forward he doesn't have the space to use it. They really need to be on the overlap to get the best of those kind of fullbacks.
Totally ineffective further up the park. Exact same as Alphonso Davies, Hakimi, Hernandez etc. all useless further up the park.

How would people feel about us selling O'Riley, not signing Bernardo and giving those places to Kelly and Lawal? Or at least them replacing the minutes that Tomoki and PB had this season while signing a more "first team appropriate" replacement for MOR?
I'm not advocating that but, realistically, we'd probably need to seriously consider that kind of approach to be able to develop and keep those players.
